Alexander Basescu
Alexander graduated from the University of Edinburgh with an MA Politics, First Class Honours, his dissertation on LGBTQ equal protection policies ranking highest in his year. After spending his junior year at the University of Pennsylvania, he served as the Operations Coordinator at the Think Tanks and Civil Societies Program of the Foreign Policy Research Institute at Penn his senior year. As a recent graduate, he went on to work at the Center for Strategic and International Relations, the world’s leading foreign policy think tank, and resides in Washington, DC, working at The Pew Charitable Trusts and Pew Research Center, linked organizations leading on American political polling, research, and advocacy. He is also a fitness instructor with CorePower Yoga, teaching hot yoga with weightlifting.

Fluent in English and Spanish, he grew up between New York and California, completing his IB diploma with four higher levels. He has held various leadership and representative positions at both his universities to better understand how to help underserved communities. Some of his most memorable university experiences include managing over 240 interns through a research fellowship, being the Assistant Secretary General of the Ivy League Model United Nations Conference, becoming Vice President of the Edinburgh Political Union, founding Democrats Overseas at Edinburgh, volunteering to help high achieving low-income students with their college applications, and pursuing music as a cellist and singer, making the most of both the US and UK higher education system.

He helps students navigate the admissions process by managing logistics while encouraging authenticity. He firmly believes the process is about matching students with schools that would best fit the lifestyle and opportunities they need to maximize their potential. He’s had kids with interests ranging from politics to engineering to business to medicine, you name it, earn acceptances to Ivy Leagues, small liberal arts colleges, research powerhouses, leading public universities, and honors programs including UVA’s Jefferson Scholarship. He’s focused on fit over prestige, without compromising either. In his fourth application cycle with A-List, he’s also honored to have consistently had parents entrust little siblings with him after helping big siblings, to have helped kids find their literary style and independence through the essay writing process, to widen perspectives on which schools may be great fits, and have his students apply skills learned to their college life as successful admits.
